GREML (short for Grand Rapids Elementary Math Lab) was a week-long class/laboratory co-sponsored by the Steelcase Corporation and the Kent Intermediate School District and held at the Steelcase University Learning Center in Grand Rapids, MI. Students participating in the Grand Rapids laboratory class were entering fifth graders. The sessions, led by Dr. Deborah Ball, aimed to first develop students’ mathematical skills, then secondly to give observers a chance to discuss the way in which they developed those skills.
